The Story Behind Lotus & Lily
Lotus & Lily was born out of a simple idea — finding beauty and peace in the little things, even during life’s most difficult moments.
Back in 2020, I had a growing collection of nearly a hundred glass jars I’d saved over the years. It all began one day at work, when I noticed a co-worker eating peaches from a small, pretty glass jar. I remember thinking, “That’s too nice to throw away.” From then on, I started saving jars, knowing that one day I’d find the perfect use for them.
That same year, my family and I faced one of the hardest moments of our lives — my sister, who had been bravely fighting colon cancer, entered hospice care and eventually passed away. In the midst of the sadness and uncertainty, I found myself searching for something — anything — that could bring me peace and help me heal.
That’s when I discovered candle making.
At first, it was just a creative way to repurpose my jars. But soon, it became so much more. Each candle I poured gave me space to breathe, to reflect, and to process my grief in a gentle way. Candle making became my therapy — a way to honor my sister’s memory while creating light in a time that felt so dark.
And from that place of healing, Lotus & Lily was born.
My mission has always been to share that same sense of calm, comfort, and positivity with others. Each candle is made with care and intention — a reminder to pause, care for yourself, and find beauty even in life’s imperfect moments.
The name Lotus & Lily carries a special meaning close to my heart. The lotus flower symbolizes rebirth, resilience, and peace — a reminder that even from muddy waters, something beautiful can bloom. The lily stands for love, devotion, and purity — a tribute to my mother and her nurturing spirit that continues to guide me.
The lotus is also the name of the street I grew up on, and the lily honors my mom — both symbols of where I come from and who helped shape me into who I am today.
Every candle I make carries a piece of that story — of loss, love, and light. My hope is that when you light a Lotus & Lily candle, you feel a little of that warmth, comfort, and peace in your own home too.
